Background: Kory has a breadth of experience in the fitness industry ranging from his humble beginnings of cleaning fitness equipment (which he still does) to training professional athletes and everyday people who want to get healthier, stronger and look great doing it. He’s worked in University Athletics, started his own online fitness business and managed many trainers giving him a wide grasp on the industry and what it takes to help his clients be successful. Kory believes fitness should be sustainable and fun while empowering his clients towards achieving their personal goals.

What made you decide you wanted/needed to start a program?
I had been working out for quite a while before starting the program. It was inefficient training, and I knew I needed some proper guidance and coaching to take my fitness to the next level. I had already been doing with a boot camp style class led by Kory. I liked his way of doing things and approached him about creating this program for me.

What do you like most about online training?
Online training is straightforward for me to access. I work two jobs, and to bring a logbook around with me could quite easily be forgotten. I have access where ever I am at any time I can work out. I also receive updates to the program through my phone, so I don’t have to schedule a time to go in and pick up additional training logs.

What results have you achieved since starting your program?
I have become significantly stronger (I deadlifted 535lbs at a bodyweight of 180lbs); my conditioning level has exceeded what it has been in the past. And on two separate occasions, I was able to cut weight down to 6% body fat without any changes to my workout program.

What do you like best about our program/ having a trainer?
I like how it is specialized to fit the individual. I had knee and hip issues over the last year, and Kory was able to tweak the programming to movements that did not aggravate these injuries, while still getting a good workout in. This allowed me to continue to reach my fitness goals while healing. What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program? Just do it. It’s an investment in yourself that will pay off long term.

What made you decide you wanted/needed to start a program?
I chose to start a program with a trainer because I have always felt intimidated by the gym I had no prior knowledge of strength training. Additionally, my self-confidence in that environment was near non-existent. I knew that if I were going start and make getting to the gym a habit, I would have to have someone to hold me accountable, educated me on the proper form, and provide guidance on different programs. Even after a year of training, it isn’t always easy for me to get to the gym on my own, but I never miss a session with Kory.

What results have you achieved since starting your program?
First and foremost, as a rugby player, I have seen/felt huge chances on the pitch. I started training with Kory near the end of my rugby 2015 season, and this season my teammates, coaches and I have noticed the changes in my playing. I am hitting harder, running faster and feeling stronger. I am now able to focus more on skill development rather than catching my breath or fighting tired muscles. Secondly, I notice lots of positive changes to my body. Areas that I felt were strong and toned before starting my training have improved ten-fold. I catch myself flexing in every mirror that I pass. I have to stop myself sometimes because the gun show can’t always be free! It’s just so amazing to see the changes in myself.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?
Do it! It is great to have guidance while you learn and someone who will push you! The absolute minimum that would come out of trying a program with a trainer is that you would know if it’s for you or not, and you will have met someone new. For me, and I’m sure everyone else who has worked with Kory, we know that he is an amazing coach and person. He is always upbeat, positive, and he knows what he is talking about when it comes to strength training. Also, you know how you always hear about how clients form such great relationships with their trainers, and they talk about it being life-changing? Honestly, I was skeptical before I met Kory. After training sessions with Kory, I am always in such a great mood and he’s had an impact on my life, even outside the gym. I am truly thankful for Kory and all that he’s taught me!

“I first met Kory 3 months ago, a friend of mine had been telling me about his amazing trainer for a while. Kory had offered him to bring me in for one of his sessions. The second I met Kory, I knew I would learn a TON from him. I tried to suck up every second of knowledge from him in the hour session. I, too, am a personal trainer (have been for about a year). I learned more in one session with Kory than I had in a month at my job. He can explain things in a way that are easy to understand. After the session, I had decided to start training for obstacle course races (OCR); this was the specialty my friend had been training on with Kory. “I decided to do Kory’s squat program simply because my squat sucked, and I wanted it to be stronger, and I precisely got that at the end of 12 weeks. I went from having squatting 255 lbs x 5 to squatting 305 x 3 and 350 x 1 (max effort). My secondary goal was to gain weight, and I achieved that too, I gained 10 lbs in 12 weeks (went from 151 to 161 lbs). The only bad part about this program is that now I have to buy new pants and my old pants are too tight. Also, just because it says squat program doesn’t mean it ignores the other lifts. At the beginning of the program, I had trouble doing 3 x 10 bench press at 135 lbs, and by the end, I was able to do one set at 170 lbs. My deadlift also went up tremendously as I was able to lift weights I never lifted before (I was able to do 405 x 3). Another reason why Kory is an excellent trainer is he is always there to give feedback, all we had to do was record our lift, and he would help us out with technique and answer any questions we had. If you are motivated and are on a quest to increase your strength, I would highly recommend his programs.”

“A strength coach is more than someone that yells at athletes demanding the performance of particular exercises for an exact number of repetitions. A true, effective, strength and conditioning coach must have certain traits which allow athletes to trust, buy-in, and give everything they have to their training to achieve their goals. My dear friend and strength coach for the past two years, Kory Allen, possesses these characteristics that are desired from every coach in the strength and conditioning field. To begin, Kory is incredibly knowledgeable. He has recently completed his honours undergraduate degree at the University of Waterloo for kinesiology. Through his time, he has taken many sports physiology and biomechanical courses to better his craft. It doesn’t simply stop with school courses for the extremely well-read man. He always has his nose in a piece of literature written by the greats such as Boyle, Pavlov and Wendler. After dealing with many different types of athletes and lifters, Kory has developed the skill of adaptability. He has been able to design programs and assist with exercises to work around injuries and varying movement limitations that athletes often suffer from. He has been able to keep my programs fresh and exciting while pinpointing certain areas that need a great deal of improvement. A good strength coach needs to be able to communicate with his athletes. Kory is extremely personable; he is very open and always willing to talk and explain his ideas and future goals and expectations. No question has ever been a stupid question. Now his ‘social butterfly’ nature doesn’t make him a pushover either. Each day Kory’s leadership skills shine as he single-handedly handles the 60 plus kids on the Waterloo Warriors football team. The entire team respects him and listens to his teachings. He demands 100% effort, and he can get such effort out of his athletes, for they recognize how much commitment he gives day in day out. Finally, one of Kory’s best attributes is that he is always willing to try and learn new things. He realizes he doesn’t know everything and that he has much more to learn. This trait of Kory’s is shown through his travelling across North America to watch and listen to some of the best strength and conditioning coaches in the game. He has attended football combines to see firsthand how technical young and aspiring athletes must be to make the professional level. He even put the pads on and participated in the 2013 Warriors training camp to experience exactly what football players endure during those miserable two weeks. Kory, with his amiable nature, presents incredible amounts of knowledge, adaptability, and dedication that is unmatched with other strength trainers his age. I will continue to stay in touch and consult with Kory regarding my strength and conditioning programs for years to come as I continue through my football career.”

“Kory Allen is an excellent trainer who helps you achieve the goals you set for yourself, as long as you also put the necessary effort in. My decision to get a personal trainer was to improve on my bench press, deadlift, and squat. Since getting Kory to design and help me during my workouts, my bench press has gone from a 135lb 1×5 to almost a 225 5×5, with the most recent one rep max testing of 245lbs; all within six months. My squat form has never been better, and my deadlift technique and hip hinge are always improving, with both improving in excess of 100lbs each, due to his expert advice and spotting. Having a trainer makes you more accountable for your actions and helps push you to push yourself to your very limits. When they are there, they also help correct small mistakes in form that could potentially compound into serious technical flaws in the future. If you are unsure if you should try Kory as your personal trainer, I would ask you to think a few things: “Do I have a plan to actually achieve a goal I set for myself? Do I even have a goal? Do I even lift?” If you ever doubted or thought no about those questions, I would urge you just to give Kory a try. He will meticulously plan a routine that fits your needs and body to make sure you achieve your goal. All you have to do is take the step forward and put your best effort into the routine he designs. It will be hard and difficult, but your goals will become results if you give it your all and give Kory a try.”

“If I had to describe working with Kory in one sentence, it would be like having a gym buddy with infinite knowledge and positive motivation, never short of hard work or a fun time. From day one, I knew he was the right trainer for me.

On our first meet, we sat down, and he began to ask me about my goals and personal interest. After I told him what my fitness goals were, without hesitation, his response was “awesome, let’s do this!” Kory then designed a program for me, which at first glance, I thought wasn’t the right kind for me, but I trusted his expertise, and in the end, he was right. Some days we’d be chatting having a good time while we were working out, and in the middle of the conversation, he’d throw in some trainer advice without changing the tone of the conversation. Other days he would be pushing me mentally and physically, and just when I’d think I had enough, he’d crack a joke, do something silly or motivate me in a positive way and give me the extra grit I needed to finish the workout.

With Kory’s help, I saw more results in a shorter time than ever before without putting in any more effort. My flexibility, conditioning, muscular strength, muscular endurance and recovery time have all improved since working with Kory.
